Vikram Batra, born on 15 November 1974 in Palampur India, passed away on 7 July 1999, at the young age of 24 years. Vikram was an impressive leader and soldier hailed as a hero for his acts of valor in the 1999 Kargil War. Wielding advanced combat tactics, he held off waves of Pakistani attackers even in the face of tremendous adversity. He single-handedly recaptured the peak of Point 5140, earning himself the prestigious Param Vir Chakra, India’s highest decoration for valor. Vikram was not just a soldier, but also a passionate teacher, having taken teaching classes for enlisted men and villagers in Kargil. He was an asset to the Indian army and rose to the rank of Captain. Vikram’s memory will live on for generations, for his bravery and acts of courage in the face of enemy fire. The nation will forever be indebted to him for his service to India. He was cherished for his sublime spirit and will be deeply missed.
