Italian royal and former King, Vittorio Emanuele III passed away on 28 December 1947, at the age of 78 in Alexandria, Egypt. He was born on 11 November 1869, in Rome to King Umberto I and Queen Margherita of Savoy. In 1900, Vittorio became Prince of Naples, and then in 1901, he became King, following the assassination of his father. His 41-year reign (1900-1946) was marked by his devotion and dedication to his nation and its people. Throughout his reign, he worked towards the betterment of the nation, enacting constitutional reforms, funding the disadvantaged and even abdicated from the throne to show solidarity with his people during the Great War. His reign ended on 25 June 1946, when he reluctantly abdicated in favor of his son, Umberto II, after the nation voted against the monarchy. Vittorio is survived by his wife, Elena, his sons, Umberto and Humberto, his grandson, Vittorio Emanuele, and his grand daughter, Emanuela. He will be remembered for his commitment and love for his nation and also for his selfless act of abdication to show his nation solidarity in its hour of need.
