Sammy Davis Jr., the world renowned entertainer and singer, passed away on May 16th, 1990 at age 64. Sammy Davis Jr. was born in Harlem, New York and began performing in show business at the age of 3 alongside his father, Sammy Davis Sr. and his uncle, Will Mastin. His career in music and entertainment spanned over five decades and included starring in films, Broadway shows, Las Vegas revues and national tours. He also was renowned for his singing and dancing, which quickly made him an international star. In addition to his performance career, Davis Jr. was an activist in the Civil Rights Movement. He worked closely with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and used his platform to combat racism. Davis Jr. was the recipient of numerous awards including a Golden Globe and an Emmy. In 1988, he was honored with the esteemed Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Lifetime Achievement Award. He is survived by his family, friends, and fans. He was beloved for his astounding talent, magnetic personality, and dedication to social justice. His throughout his lifetime, his positive message and artistry gave joy to generations of people worldwide.
