Trevor Howard, a British actor of stage and screen, passed away on January 7, 1988 at the age of 74. Born in Margate, Kent, England on October 29, 1913, Howard was known for his roles in a variety of films in a career marked by a unique range of characters and genres. Notable films included Brief Encounter (1945), Son of Robin Hood (1959), The Third Man (1950), and Lawrence of Arabia (1962). His stage career was equally renowned, with performances in 1955's Richard II and 1944's Love for Love. For his performances, he received a BAFTA Award and a Golden Globe Award. Howard's life encompassed far more than acting, with a varied career marked by his service in the British Army during World War II. He also served as a writer, was an enthusiastic gardener, and wrote a book on butterflies.
