Tommy Morrison, an accomplished boxer who fought for the heavyweight championship in 1993 passed away on September 1, 2013 at the age of 44. Tommy was born in 1969 in Jay, Oklahoma. He had a long and successful boxing career and began training with the Griffith brothers at the age of 11. Tommy's professional record was 48-4-1 with 42 knockouts. He won the World Boxing Organisation heavyweight title in 1993 after winning a unanimous decision against George Foreman. In addition to his career accomplishments, Tommy had a positive impact on the lives of many people, including those affected by HIV/AIDs. He was tested for the virus in 1996, and was subsequently affected by stigma and discrimination. He worked in several HIV/AIDS educational programs to help reduce stigma and an advocate for AIDS research and education throughout his life. Tommy is survived by his wife Trisha and their four children. He will be remembered for his accomplishment in the boxing ring, and for the positive impact he had in the lives of many people.
