Tom Wolfe, renowned American writer and journalist, passed away on May 14th 2018, after a life well lived at the age of 88. Tom Wolfe's career began in 1957 as a general assignment reporter for the Springfield Union in Massachusetts, after which he earned a degree in American Studies from Yale and eventually shifted to writing full time. He became most acclaimed for his work in journalism, novel writing, and essays, which helped to modernize literature by introducing 'New Journalism', a style of writing encompassing many literary techniques with a journalistic framework. His novels include The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test, The Right Stuff, as well as Bonfire of the Vanities and A Man in Full. His iconic writing style, abundant with vivid description, in-depth profile and its ability to engage readers reflected his innate passion and knowledge. Wolfe's work was revered and taken to new heights by publications such as the New Yorker, Harper's Magazine, and Rolling Stone. Born on March 2nd 1930 to Thomas Kennerly Wolfe, Sr. and Olga Bates Wolfe, Wolfe will be remembered for his life and career in both New Journalism and literature, accomplishments that will continue to shape the writing and journalism of our time.
