Sad news reached the hearts of many on September 24th when Thilakan passed away at the age of 77. Born on August 15th, 1935, in Thalayolaparambu, Kerala, India, Thilakan was an Indian film and stage actor known for his powerful performances and abundant versatility. Despite a career spanning more than four decades, Thilakan enjoyed the most prolific period of his career between 1986 and 2012, during which he acted in some of the most popular Malayalam films. He won several awards, including several Kerala State Film Awards and Filmfare Awards for his powerful performances. The actor was often referred to as “the Shakespeare of Indian cinema”, and many of his memorable films were based on adaptations of Shakespeare’s plays. Thilakan is survived by his two sons, two daughters, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and admirers in the film industry.
