Theodor Herzl, one of the most influential figures in the history of Zionism, passed away on 3 July 1904. He was 44 years old. Herzl was born in Pest, Hungary in 1860. He was a journalist and playwright who worked in France and Austria. Throughout his life, he wrote and spoke extensively on the subject of Jewish statehood. He is best known for his writing of the political manifesto Der Judenstaat in 1896 and the convening of the First Zionist Congress in 1897. These historic events marked the beginning of the global Zionist movement and led to the founding of the World Zionist Organization. Herzl was revered by many around the world for his commitment to the Jewish cause. He was dedicated to achieving a better future for Jews and firmly believed in a Jewish homeland in what is now Israel. Theodor Herzl’s legacy will continue to be part of the Zionist narrative for generations to come. He was a visionary who changed the course of history. He will be fondly remembered by his family, friends, and all those around the world who have been touched by his life and work.
