Theo van Gogh, renowned Dutch filmmaker, actor, and columnist, passed away on November 2, 2004 at 47 years old. Born in 1957 to art dealers Johan van Gogh and Anna Cornelia Carbentus, Theo grew up in an artistic household in The Hague. He studied at the Amsterdam School of the Arts, later becoming a major name in the Dutch art world. His work in film and television focused mainly on topics like multiculturalism and poverty in the Netherlands. He was noted for his bold and irreverent approach to filmmaking which made him incredibly popular, specifically within the Dutch youth. Theo's outspoken nature often led him to voice his opinions on controversial subjects. Theo was also an established writer and columnist, largely known for his regular column at Regular column at the free newspaper Metro. In 2004, Theo was awarded the prestigious Order of the Dutch Lion for his contributions to Dutch culture and artistry. Theo will be remembered for his passionate and outspoken character, remarkable artistry, and his tremendous impact on Dutch society. He is survived by his mother, father, and brother, Vincent van Gogh.
