Maurice Tillet, known as the Angel of the Ring for his time as a professional wrestler, passed away on September 4, 1954, at 50 years old. Tillet was born in St. Petersburg, Russian Empire, and gained an early interest in historical military figures due to his father, a Navy officer. At the age of 19, a case of acromegaly led to extreme physical changes and soon resulted in him leaving behind his first career in law in order to pursue a life in wrestling. He quickly rose in popularity, soon becoming one of the most well-known wrestlers in the world. Tillet's unique look served as inspiration for many comic book characters, including Marvel's "The Thing". Outside of wrestling, Tillet was passionate about films and had a dream of entering the industry. At the time of his death, he was preparing to take a screenwriting course in an attempt to make his dream a reality. Maurice Tillet will be fondly remembered for his outstanding contributions to the world of professional wrestling and for his admirable persistence in following his dreams.
