Telly Savalas, the Emmy-award winning actor and singer, passed away on January 22, 1994 at the age of 72. Best known as Detective Lt. Theo Kojak in the iconic CBS television show Kojak (1973-78) and Bond villian Ernst Stavro Blofeld in On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), Telly Savalas had a career spanning over five decades. His 1950 film debut as Pvt. Savalas in The Glass Wall (1953) launched his career in Hollywood, and he continued to appear in a total of 30 films, as well as dozens of television series and specials. His other noteworthy film credits include Birdman of Alcatraz (1962), Escape to Athena (1979), and Capricorn One (1978). Telly Savalas also received an Emmy Award in 1971 for an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his role in the NBC series Banyon. He is survived by his daughter Christina and two sons.
