On December 26th, 2010, singer and songwriter Teena Marie, passed away at the age of 54. Considering she was born Mary Christine Brockert, Teena Marie built an incredible career. She was signed to Motown Records in 1976 and soon thereafter gained the nickname "Lady T". She went on to have a multitude of hit songs such as "Lovergirl", and her duet with Rick James, "Fire and Desire". The Santa Monica, California native received 8 Grammy nominations and was awarded the NAACP Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006, and a BET Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009. Her success in the music industry brought her many devoted fans. During her music career, Teena Marie also had the pleasure of working with some of the biggest names in the music industry. This included her own mentor, Hank Cosby, mentors Rick James and Kedar Massenburg, and her last release was with the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Teena Marie's creative voice and drive was admired by many, and will be remembered by fans and the music industry alike. She will be deeply missed.
