On August 25, 2009, Ted Kennedy--U.S. Senator, civil rights advocate, and son of Joseph and Rose Kennedy--passed away at age 77. The youngest of nine siblings, Ted Kennedy represented Massachusetts in the U.S. Senate from 1962 until his passing, making him the second longest-serving Senator in U.S. history. He was a passionate voice on countless social issues, especially civil rights and labor laws, and was praised by political leaders on both sides of the aisle. Kennedy was credited with passing over 300 bills as either primary sponsor or co-sponsor. He served on the Judiciary Committee, the Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee, and the Armed Services Committee. He was a vigorous advocate for raising the minimum wage, improving access to health insurance, expanding civil rights, and other progressive causes. Kennedy's political legacy will live on through the countless lives that were improved by his tireless dedication. He is survived by his wife, Victoria Kennedy, his children, and their families.

The fear of death is the most unjustified of all fears, for there’s no risk of accident for someone who’s dead. Albert Einstein
