Rhee Syng-man passed away on July 19th, 1965 at the age of 90. He was born on April 26th, 1875 in Hanyang, Gyeonggi Province, Korea. Syng-man attended Tianjin-Fu Imperial University and obtained a Doctorate of Laws from George Washington University. During his long lifetime, Syng-man made a great impact on Korea. He was an activist, political leader, and founder of the first Korean government established by Koreans in exile. He was a member of the Korean National Association, a major independence movement group at the time. In 1948, he was elected as the first President of South Korea and held office for 12 years. Syng-man's vast contributions to the development of modern Korea remain with the people. He lived and continues to live in the hearts of many who cherish his incredible legacy.
