With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Syama Prasad Mukherjee on June 24, 1953. He was born on July 6, 1901 to advocate Krishna Kumar Mukherjee and his mother Bindubasini Devi. Syama Prasad left behind a legacy of networking and alliance building, due to his leading role in the Indian independence movement. He served as a professor of English at the University of Calcutta, as well as a barrister in practice at Calcutta High Court. Syama Prasad was a brilliant leader who held several prominent political offices, including President of the All India Hindu Mahasabha and subsequently a cabinet minister in the Government of India. He was also central in the formation of the Hindustan Republican Association, helping create it on October 4, 1924. Syama Prasad was an inspirational leader who spent his life dedicated to fighting for a unified India. He will be deeply missed by all who love him. May he rest in peace.
