On August 21st, 1995, the world mourned the passing of the great Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar. He was 84 years old. Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar was a world renown astrophysicist and Nobel laureate. He was of Indian descent, born in Lahore, India, and educated in Cambridge, England. While at Cambridge, he formulated the mathematical theory for what is now known as the Chandrasekhar limit. This theory demonstrated a relationship between stars and their eventual destiny. Subrahmanyan was the recipient of numerous awards and honors, including the prestigious 1983 Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on the evolutionary stages of stars. He was also a recipient of the National Medal of Science in 1983, and an honorary member of the Royal Society of London. He will be remembered for his impressive contributions to the sciences, and his dedication to the field of astrophysics. He is survived by his brother, Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, and his wife, Lalitha Chandrasekhar. He will be greatly missed by all.
