Stieg Larsson, one of Sweden’s most respected journalists and authors, passed away on November 9, 2004 at the age of 50. Born in 1954 in Skellefteå, he wrote extensively on technology and financial issues. Larsson later moved to Stockholm, where his career in journalism blossomed, writing for several publications such as Expo magazine, and becoming editor-in-chief for the online publication of Search & Destroy. Larsson was known for his investigations into neo-Nazism, racism, and anti-democratic movements. Larsson’s most acclaimed works of literature include The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which was adapted into a critically acclaimed Swedish film in 2009. He also wrote two additional books, The Girl Who Played with Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets’ Nest. The trilogies were published posthumously, and have become international bestsellers. Larsson is remembered as a passionate journalist who devoted his life to truth and justice. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
