Stephen Furst, the comedic actor best known for his signature dry wit and easy-going charm, passed away on June 16, 2017 at the age of 63. The Virginia native began his career as an on-air radio host in the mid-1970s, eventually making his way to the big screen in the early 1980s with roles in films such as The Wild Life, Northeastern, and Moving Violations. Furst is perhaps best remembered for his starring role in the beloved television comedy, Animal House, where he portrayed the iconic Delta house member, Flounder. More recently, he was seen as Dr. Elliot Axelrod in the Emmy-winning medical drama, St. Elsewhere. He also had a successful career as a voice actor, appearing in over 250 productions, such as the animated series Adventure Time, The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride, Scooby Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, and Invader Zim. Furst is survived by his wife of 37 years, Lorraine Wright, and their three children, Cody, Alexis, and Corwin. He will be deeply missed by family and friends and his legacy will continue to live on through his work.
