Aurobindo Ghosh, a prominent Indian philosopher, yogi, and political leader, passed away on December 5, 1950, at the age of 78. He was born on August 15, 1872, in Kolkata, India, to Dr. Krishna Dhun Ghose and Swarnalata Devi. As a young man, Ghosh received his education in India and England, where he excelled academically and won several awards. He returned to India in 1893 and became an influential figure in the Indian independence movement. He actively participated in various political activities and served as an editor for several nationalist newspapers. Ghosh was also deeply spiritual and sought a balance between politics and spirituality. He practiced yoga and meditation and wrote extensively on the subject, gaining a following of spiritual seekers from around the world. In 1910, Ghosh withdrew from politics and focused on spiritual pursuits. He moved to Pondicherry, where he established the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, a spiritual community that continues to thrive today. Ghosh's contributions to Indian society and culture were immense. He is remembered as a prolific writer, with works spanning from poetry and philosophy to political and spiritual ideologies. His spiritual teachings and writings continue to inspire people worldwide. Ghosh will be deeply missed by his followers and the Indian community as a whole.
