Spike Milligan, a British comedian, writer, poet, playwright, musician, and actor, passed away on February 27th, 2002 at the age of 83. He will most notably be remembered for his leading role in The Goon Show, a BBC Radio comedy series that achieved cult status. Milligan was additionally celebrated as a poet, with his 1963 book Silly Verse for Kids remaining a much-loved collection. Additionally, his multiple books of comic verse received widespread acclaim, as did his many musical works. His recordings include reinterpretations of jazz and popular music classics as well as his own compositions. Milligan was the recipient of multiple awards and honors. He received five honorary Doctor of Letters degrees during his lifetime. Furthermore, he was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire and Officer of the Order of the British Empire. Milligan will be lovingly remembered by the many people whose lives he touched.
