Sophie Scholl, born 9 May 1921 in Forchtenberg, Germany, died 22 February 1943, was an activist in the German student resistance movement against Nazism. Her life was characterized by daring acts of civil disobedience, including distributing political leaflets at the University of Munich with her brother Hans. On 18 February 1943, she was arrested in the university for committing these acts and charged with treason. After a short trial, she was sentenced to death and beheaded on 22 February, making her a martyr for the cause of freedom against Nazi Germany. Sophie Scholl is remembered for her courage and commitment to non-violent resistance against a totalitarian regime. Her legacy lives on in the minds of those fighting for democracy and justice.
