Sondra Locke, an Oscar-nominated actress and director, died peacefully on November 3, 2018, at the age of 74. A native of Shelbyville, Tennessee, Locke enjoyed a successful career on stage and in Hollywood, appearing in over twenty films and directing four. She earned various awards for her performances, including a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in The Heart is a Lonely Hunter (1968). In 1978, she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role, for her performance in The Turning Point. She also had notable roles in Every Which Way But Loose, Bronco Billy, and Sudden Impact. In addition to her film career, Locke famously sued Clint Eastwood for fraud in 1982, alleging that he had set her up to fail as a movie director. Her case was settled out of court in 1989. Outside of acting, Locke enjoyed cooking, playing on the piano, and gardening. She is survived by her son, Josh Anderson, of Sherman, Texas.

There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are the messengers of overwhelming grief, of deep contrition, and of unspeakable love. Washington Irving
