Sinéad Marie Bernadette O'Connor, born 1966-10-08 to Sean and Marie O'Connor, passed away on July 26th, 2023 at the age of 56. Sinéad will be remembered as a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter best known for her powerful vocals and political activism during the ‘90s. She was one of the most influential pop stars of her generation, inspiring and influencing artists from around the world. In 1990 she released her debut album The Lion and the Cobra, and it quickly earned her worldwide recognition and acclaim, earning three Grammy Award nominations. In 1992 she topped the charts with her single ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ written by Prince. It became an instant classic. Throughout her career, Sinéad continued to make powerful statements on a variety of social issues including peace in Ireland, education reform, and animal rights. She never backed away from difficult conversations and worked diligently to raise awareness for marginalized groups and the fight against racial inequality. She will be remembered for her outspokenness and compassion for those in need. Her passion and creativity will never be forgotten. Sinéad O'Connor is survived by her parents Sean and Marie, her two children Jake and Roisin, and her large extended family.
