David Edward Sutch, also known as 'Screaming Lord Sutch', passed away on June 16, 1999 at the age of 58. Born in London in 1941, David was Britain's first rock-and-roller, and was instrumental in inspiring the skiffle and rock-and-roll scene in the 1950s and 60s. He achieved notoriety as the leader of a monster-themed rock-and-roll group, Lord Sutch and the Savages, and is remembered for memorable performances such as singing while having his head set on fire. David was a larger-than-life character, and made 3 runs at becoming a Member of Parliament, even founding the Official Monster Raving Loony Party in 1983. Although often referred to as a novelty act, he was certain that his entry into politics was absolutely serious. He was an iconic figure in British culture and history, never slowing down or taking a break from his passions. David is survived by his son Harvey and grandson, Rafa. He will be dearly missed.
