It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of John Larkin, more commonly known by his stage name, "Scatman John". He died peacefully on December 3, 1999 at the age of 57. John was born on March 13, 1942 in El Monte, California and developed an early passion for the piano, regularly performing around his hometown of El Monte and at talent shows. In the late 1980s, John began incorporating his scat singing into his instrumental performances, gaining notice in the Los Angeles jazz scene. John had international success with his 1994 single, “Scatman (Ski-Ba-Bop-Ba-Dop-Bop)”, which topped the charts in over 12 countries and sold over one million copies in Europe. His other singles, including “Scatman's World”, also charted across the world. His album, Scatman's World, would go on to win the German Echo Award for best single of 1995.
