Sally Ann Howes, an English actress, singer, and dancer, died on December 19, 2021, at the age of 91. Born in London in 1930, Howes trained as a dancer and made her stage debut in 1940 at the Palace Theatre in London. She went on to appear in productions of "Oklahoma!" and "Carousel," and she made her film debut in "Mr. Drake’s Ducks" (1951). Howes gained notoriety in 1965 when she co-starred with Julie Andrews in the film version of "The Sound of Music." A Tony Award nominee, Howes is also known for lending her singing and dancing skills to numerous films and television shows. She was a regular on the BBC television series "The Stormy Petrel" (1965-1967) and appeared in films such as "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang" (1968), "Oh! What a Lovely War" (1969), and "The Invincible Six" (1970). Throughout her career, Howes received numerous awards and accolades for her outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry, including a BAFTA award, an Emmy nomination, and an honorary doctorate from the Royal Academy of Music. She was also a patron of the British Dyslexia Association and a lifelong supporter of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Howes is remembered for her grace, her warmth, and an incomparable talent that will live on through her screen and stage work. She is survived by her son, Jasper Lowther.
