Saeed Jaffrey, a beloved Bollywood and Broadway actor, passed away on November 15, 2015 at the age of 86. He was best known for his roles in Merchant Ivory Films, including 1985's A Room With A View, and the Oscar-winning Gandhi, released in 1982. Jaffrey was born on January 8, 1929 in Pakistan, and later moved to India. He studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, and was part of many productions for BBC Radio and Television. He also hosted the first Asian TV program in Britain for BBC in 1970, called ‘Eastern Service’. Jaffrey's film work included roles in a number of Merchant Ivory films, and he starred in various Bollywood hits such as Shatranj Ke Khilari and Chashme Buddoor. Jaffrey was revered for his nuanced performances, remembered with love by his fans around the world. His legacy will live on in the art he left behind, and the hearts of all that knew and loved him.
