Sadhana Shivdasani, an iconic actress who gained immense success and recognition in the 1960s and early 1970s, passed away peacefully on December 25th, 2015 at the age of 74. Born on September 2nd, 1941 in Karachi, India, Sadhana was best known for her signature hairstyle called the “Sadhana Cut”, which was hugely popular in India during the ‘60s. She made her acting debut in the romantic musical film, Love in Shimla (1960) and quickly rose to stardom in the Bollywood film industry with her performances in movies such as Mere Mehboob (1963), Woh Kaun Thi (1964), and Hum Dono (1961). Her performance in the thriller, Woh Kaun Thi, earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, and she was nominated at the same award ceremony two years later for her performance in Hum Dono. Her remarkable talent was also recognized with the President’s Award for Best Actress, and she was honored with the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, for her contribution to the Indian film industry. In the late decades of her life, Sadhana had been living a retired life in her apartment in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. She is survived by her only son, Akshat, and will be remembered fondly by her fans for her immense contribution to the world of cinema.
