Ruth Gordon, an American actress, screenwriter, and playwright, passed away on August 28, 1985, at the age of 88. Born on October 30, 1896, in Wauseon, Ohio, she began her career in 1911 as a chorus girl on Broadway, later establishing herself as one of the greatest female figures in entertainment for the next seven decades. She earned her first Academy Award nomination for co-writing Me and My Gal (1932) and won an Academy Award for her supporting performance in Rosemary’s Baby (1968). In addition to a successful film career, Gordon was also a successful playwright, writing Always Goodbye (1938) and Over Twenty-One (1945). She earned an Academy Award nomination for an adaptation of her stage play The Diary of Anne Frank (1959). Ruth Gordon's incredible career spanned over seven decades and included over 60 films. Throughout her career, she garnered numerous accolades, including Emmy Awards for her performances in the films Head of the Class (1986) and Talk to Me (1984). She will be remembered for her wit, intelligence, and decades-long influence.
