Rudy Ray Moore, best known for his iconic and influential performances in films and stand-up comedy, passed away on October 19th, 2008 in Akron, Ohio at the age of 81. Moore had an extraordinary career that spanned over 45 years, from his early days in gospel singing, through his stand-up comedy career, film productions, and music releases. Moore's career in entertainment began as a gospel singer in the early 1950s, before transitioning into the world of comedy. In 1960, he created and recorded his first comedy album, That Nigger's Crazy, later renamed It's Rudy Ray Moore. This album, along with a string of others which followed, established Moore's signature comedic style and would cut the foundation for modern rap. From his stand-up albums, Moore branched out into film and released several cult classics including Dolemite (1975) and The Human Tornado (1976). These films, with their daring and over-the-top adult humor, would go on to become some of the most popular cult films in history. Rudy Ray Moore's career, though often overlooked by the mainstream, has left its mark on the entertainment industry. Through his unique and brash stand-up comedy, and his daring films, Moore was a master of shock comedy, paving the way for countless comedians today. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed.
