He was famous for his involvement in Soviet espionage in the United States during the Cold War. Rudolf was born in Russia on July 11, 1903 and adopted his surname when he became an intelligence officer in the 1930s. After the Second World War, he was assigned to establish a communist spy network in the United States, which ultimately led to his arrest in Brooklyn in 1957. He was convicted of conspiracy charges and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Following a prisoner exchange between the United States and Soviet Union in 1962, Rudolf Abel was released and returned home to the Soviet Union. Rudolf's legacy is marked by his ability to remain stoic and unbroken in the face of great adversity. His courage and fortitude during his stint as a prisoner of war made him a figure of respect and admiration for future generations. He is survived by his wife and children, who will deeply miss him.
