Roy E. Disney, the nephew of legendary entertainment innovator Walt Disney, died on December 16, 2009, at the age of 79. He played an integral role in rebuilding The Walt Disney Company from the mid-1980s onward. A lifelong business executive, Roy served as vice chairman and chairman of Walt Disney Feature Animation and was the director emeritus of The Walt Disney Company. During his time at Disney, Roy played a vital role in bringing about some of the company’s greatest successes, including Monsters, Inc., Chicken Little, The Lion King and Lilo & Stitch. Roy served on the boards of a number of organizations, including CalArts, the film arts school that his uncle co-founded, and was an advocate for animation. He was an inductee into the American Youthéare Hall of fame and the California Hall of Fame. A consummate philanthropist, Roy was a tireless contributor to charitable causes throughout his life. Charismatic and determined, Roy will forever be remembered for his vital contributions to the Walt Disney Company, as well as his generosity and compassion for those in need. He will be missed.
