Rory Calhoun, a beloved actor and producer, passed away on April 28th, 1999, at the age of 76. Born Francis Timothy McCown on August 8th, 1922 in Los Angeles, Rory was known for his western roles on television and film. He was discovered in 1945 by an agent and immediately began a prolific career as an actor. Rory's career lasted five decades, and resulted in numerous memorable roles, such as his Emmy-nominated portrayal of Taylor McKeag in the television series The Texan. His acclaimed western films include Apache Woman, The Showdown, Cowboy and the Senorita, Law of the Panhandle and Ride the High Country. He was also the star of the 1960s series The Texan and starred alongside John Wayne in McLintock! Rory went on to become a successful producer for western-themed films and television series such as The Travels of Jaime McPheeters. He also had his own production company and authored a book about his life entitled The Hollywood Cowboy. He is survived by his wife, Virginia and his three daughters, Mary Ann, Cheryl, and Catherine. He will be dearly missed.
