Roberta McCain, a strong minded, independent woman, passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 2020, at the age of 108. Roberta, the daughter of a grocer, was born to Archibald Wright and Elizabeth McKeithen Wright on February 7, 1912 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. In 1933, she married her first husband, Robert Morgan citizen, with whom she had two sons, John McCain Jr. (now deceased) and William Alexander McCain. She had a long and varied life, as she moved with her husband's military career to locations such as Groton, Connecticut and the Panama Canal Zone. It was while living in Panama that her husband died unexpectedly in 1945. Roberta persevered and became a Washington D.C. banker, while also working as a fundraiser and issue advocate for her son Senator John McCain. In 2018 Roberta was presented with the Women’s Leadership Change Maker Award for her long-standing commitment to social progress, civil rights, and civil liberties. Roberta had an undeniable spirit, her wit and charm were second to none. She lived life to the fullest and made an indelible impact on everyone who crossed her path. Roberta's legacy can be seen today in many places, her vigorous work helping to shape the world. Her loved ones will forever cherish the beautiful memories she has left behind. She will be missed.
