On March 24, 2010, Robert Culp, beloved actor and director, passed away at the age of 79. Culp was born in Berkeley, California on August 16, 1930. He attended the College of the Pacific in Stockton, California before transferring to the University of Washington in Seattle, where he majored in drama. Culp’s long career spanned five decades and included appearances on television, film, and stage. He was perhaps best known for his role as former U.S. government agent and Vietnam War veteran Kelly Robinson in the 1960s television series “I Spy”, and later “The Greatest American Hero” in the 1980s. He appeared in many movies through the years, including “Bob & Carol & Ted & Alice” (1969), “The Pelican Brief” (1993), and “Dreamscape” (1984). He also wrote and directed several television shows, and directed episodes of “Columbo” and “Murder, She Wrote”. Culp was twice married, first to Nancy Ashe and then to Dr. Doria Cook-Nelson from 1989 until his death. He is survived by three children and several grandchildren. Robert Culp was an acclaimed and respected actor and director, who left behind a lasting legacy in the entertainment industry. He will be deeply missed.
