Richard Mulligan, actor best known for his roles in television sitcoms, passed away on September 26th, 2000. He was 67 years old. Mulligan began his career on Broadway in the 1960s, but soon transitioned into roles on television. He won an Emmy Award for his portrayal of Dr. Harry Weston on "Empty Nest," and received another nomination for his role as Burt Campbell on "Soap." He starred in nearly a dozen other television shows, including "Brothers and Sisters," "The Symposium of Helene Bowman," and "The Secret Life of Bob Newhart." Mulligan enjoyed a long film career, too. He appeared in such cult favorites as "The Hot Rock," "Little Big Man," and "St. Elmo's Fire." As well as work in television and film, Mulligan was active in theater. He made over a dozen appearances on stages in New York and spent two years as part of a troop in England. Mulligan is survived by his wife, Patricia Sullivan, his children, two grandchildren, and a host of friends and colleagues. He will be remembered for his wit, warmth, and talent.
