It is with deep sadness that we mourn the death of English actor Richard Griffiths, who died at the age of 65 on March 28, 2013. The beloved actor was born in Thornaby-on-Tees, England, on July 31, 1947. He began his successful acting career upon graduating from the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 1969. Over the course of his remarkable career, Griffiths was credited for a variety of stage and screen appearances. His varied roles on stage included supporting characters in several of Shakespeare's plays at the Royal National Theater, as well as entertaining leads in productions like The History Boys and Heroes. His screen appearances included the role of Uncle Vernon Dursley in the Harry Potter film series and narration of The Wind in the Willows. Griffiths won many awards and recognition for his work, including a Tony Award for The History Boys, and a Laurence Olivier Award for Heroes. In addition to his work on stage and in film, Griffiths was also a supporter of several charity organizations. He was well-known in the entertainment world and will be remembered as an incredible talent who was capable of captivating any audience. He is survived by his wife, Heather Gibson, whom he married in 1980, as well as other members of his family and many friends and admirers.
