Richard Briers passed away peacefully on 17 February, 2013 at the age of 79. Born in London in 1934, his decorated acting career spanned over five decades beginning with his stage debut in 1956. He made his film debut in 1965's The Chalk Garden. Briers is best known for his role as Martin Bryce in the hugely successful sitcom The Good Life and he also appeared in Monarch of the Glen, Marley's Ghosts, and Ever Decreasing Circles. Richard was awarded the OBE in 1987 for his services to acting, and renowned for his strong work ethic and his sense of humour. Briers also did extensive narration work, most notably for the BBC documentary series, Chronicle. His other interests included art and cooking, both of which he was passionate about. Richard is remembered for his many contributions to television and film over the years. He is survived by his wife of fifty three years, Annie, two children, a grandchild and many extended family members and friends.
