Richard Boone, renowned actor of stage, screen, and television, passed away on January 10, 1981 at the age of 63. Boone is widely known for his portrayal of Paladin in the 1958 television series Have Gun - Will Travel. Other popular roles included his portrayals of Simon Legree in Hallmark Hall of Fame remake of Uncle Tom’s Cabin (1965), Davy Crockett in the film The Alamo (1960), ‘Bigfoot’ Wallace of CBS Western series The Villain (1969), and Tom Tooler in the syndicated western series Tate (1960). Boone's acting career started during World War II, and spanned more than 50 years. He starred in over 50 films and TV shows, including A Star Is Born (1954), Big Jake (1971), Variety Girl (1947), The Virginian (1962-1971), and Maverick (1957). His awards and nominations include Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in Have Gun - Will Travel (1958) and Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in The Richard Boone Show (1964). Boone was an active philanthropist, donating his time and energy to charities and veteran support groups in California and Hawaii. He is survived by his wife and three children.
