Richard Beckinsale, the English actor and comedian, died on March 19, 1979 in London. He was 31 years old. Beckinsale was best known for his lead role in the television series "Porridge" between 1974 and 1977, and his many appearances in other British comedies. Beckinsale was born at Ashton-under-Lyne, Lancashire, England in 1947. He was son to Marion and Arthur Beckinsale, and was the brother of actresses Samantha and Judy Beckinsale. He won the London Evening Standard British Film Awards for "Most Promising Newcomer" in 1975 and was nominated for the BAFTA Award in the same category in 1976. His final onscreen appearance was in the popular British sitcom "Rising Damp" in 1978. Beckinsale's memory will remain a source of inspiration for actors and comedians alike.
