Proper grammar must be used. René Auberjonois, the renowned character actor who was best known for his work in film, television, and theatre, passed away on December 8, 2019, at the age of 79. Born in New York City on June 1, 1940, Auberjonois attended the high-profile Clinton High School in Clinton, New York. He received his degree from Carnegie Mellon University and was later presented with honorary degrees from both Carnegie Mellon and SUNY Plattsburgh. Auberjonois began his acting career on the stage in the mid-1960s, performing in the original cast of the Broadway musical “Coco” and winning the 1970 Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Musical for his performance in “Jacob’s Ladder”. One of his greatest stage successes was in the original cast of the long-running Off-Broadway revival of "The Threepenny Opera" in 1976. He went on to stardom in films and television, first gaining notice in the 1973 sci-fi classic "Westworld" and making numerous television appearances, including roles in "MASH", "The Practice", and “Boston Legal”. He also voiced Chef Louis in the 1989 Disney film "The Little Mermaid". Auberjonois’ greatest fame came from his role as Odo, a shape-shifting Changeling and chief of security on the space station Deep Space Nine in the science-fiction series "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" (1993-1999). He appeared regularly in a number of films and television series in the 2000s, and in recent years his successes included a recurring role in the hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy". Auberjonois is survived by his wife Judith Helen Mahalyi, his three children, and one grandchild. He will be deeply missed.
