Reema Lagoo, one of the most beloved actors in India, passed away May 18th, 2017 at the age of 58 after a brief illness. Reema Lagoo was a veteran of both stage and screen, with hundreds of credits in television, cinema, and theater. She made her debut in the 1981 Marathi film Pu La Deshpande. She rose to popularity with her acclaimed performance as the titular character in the Marathi stage play Shayadhavee. Reema's performances in mainstream Hindi films followed, including Dil Vil Pyar Vyar, Hum Aapke Hain Koun!, and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Lagoo also directed the theater productions Hamari Beti (1986) and Ek Mulaqat (1987). Reema's extensive career featured humanitarian work and theater, television, and film awards alike, with wins for Best Supporting Actress at the 1990 Star Screen Awards, 1996 Zee Cine Awards, and 2010 IIFA Awards. She was well-known and cherished for her roles as a loving mother in several Indian films, most notably in films like Hum Aapke Hain Koun!, Saajan, Yes Boss, and Hum Saath-Saath Hain. In her later years, Reema was a part of several popular television shows such as Naamkarann, and Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi. Ms. Lagoo will be remembered as one of India's most beloved and respected actors and directors.
