Ravi Shankar, world-renowned musician and composer, passed away on December 11th, 2012 at the age of 92. A disciple of Ustad Allauddin Khan, Shankar became one of the foremost performing artists of the twentieth century. He influenced and popularized sitar playing, and was widely respected for his musical achievements and collaborations with Western artists. Born on April 7, 1920 in Varanasi, India, Shankar's long career included a three-decade relationship with renowned composer George Harrison of The Beatles. The two collaborated on such classics as "Within You Without You" and produced groundbreaking albums such as "All Things Must Pass." Shankar's music, spanned genres, and was beloved by listeners across the world. Shankar is survived by children Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar, and his grandchildren as well. He will be remembered fondly by music-lovers for generations to come as a legacy to world-class Indian music.
