R. Budd Dwyer (1939-1987) passed away on January 22, 1987, at the age of 47. A resident of Pennsylvania, he served the people of the Commonwealth as a member of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives from 1971-1981 and its Speaker from 1981-1986. Dwyer also served as the 30th state treasurer of Pennsylvania from 1971-1981. A passionate advocate for governmental openness and accountability, Dwyer worked to make sure that state residents were well served by their government. He was a dedicated public servant and an influential figure in state politics. Dwyer will be remembered as a principled leader who deserved the respect of his peers, as well as the admiration of his constituents. His loss will be deeply felt by all who knew and respected him.
