It is with great sadness that the world mourns the passing of HRH Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, who died on August 27, 1968, at the age of 61. Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, born as Marina Caroline Gouriuff, was born on December 13, 1906 in Athens, Greece. She was the daughter of Prince Nicholas of Greece and Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna of Russia. She had five siblings from her father's previous marriage as well. On November 29, 1934, Princess Marina married HRH Prince George, Duke of Kent, fourth son of King George V and Queen Mary. Together they had three children - Princess Alexandra, Prince Michael, and Prince Edward - all of whom survived her. Throughout her life, Princess Marina was devoted to helping others through her charity and philanthropic work. She was involved with numerous foundations including the British Red Cross and St. John Ambulance, for which she acted as Patron for many years. In addition, Princess Marina was a patron of the arts, regularly attending theatre and ballet performances as well as opera. The death of Her Royal Highness Princess Marina, Duchess of Kent, marks the end of an era of love, dedication, and compassion. She will be greatly missed.
