Princess Cecilie of Greece and Denmark, daughter of King George I and Queen Olga of Greece, passed away on November 16, 1937 at the age of 26. She was born October 22, 1911 in Tatoi Palace, Greece and had two sisters, Princesses Sophie and Margarita, and a brother, Crown Prince Paul. The Princess was a talented artist, musician, and writer. Cecilie married the Hereditary Grand Duke of Hesse on October 19, 1931 and they had four children, Prince Ludwig, Princess Elisabeth, Prince Alexander, and Prince Karl Adolf. She was known for her free spirit and had a great passion for life. Cecilie enjoyed sports, dancing, and playing the viola. She also supported charities and was a patron of the Red Cross in her home country of Greece. Her older sister Sophie passed away in 1941 in a Nazi German concentration camp, and her younger sister Margarita died in 1981. Princess Cecilie will be remembered for her caring and generous spirit, and will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her.
