Born April 14th, 1857 in Buckingham Palace.
Died October 26th, 1944 at 87 years old in Brantridge Park.
It is with sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Beatrice of the United Kingdom. Pri Princess Beatrice passed away on October 26th, 1944, at the age of 87, after a long and storied life of service to Her Majesty the Queen and to her nation. Her Royal Highness was born on April 14th, 1857, at Buckingham Palace. She was the fifth daughter and ninth child of Queen Victoria and her consort, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. When her father died, Princess Beatrice took on an important role within the royal family, acting as her mother’s secretary and companion. As an adult, Princess Beatrice became the Duchess of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. She married Prince Henry of Battenburg in 1885 and, in 1900, she became the chairwoman of the Needlework Guild, a not-for-profit organisation that provided clothes and essential items to those in need. In her later years, Princess Beatrice did not take an active role in the public eye, preferring to live quietly at Kensington Palace with her daughter, Princess Victoria of Hesse and Rhine. Her Royal Highness will be remembered for her devotion to family, her commitment to service, and her kindness to others. We extend our condolences to the members of the British royal family and all those who had the privilege of knowing Her Royal Highness.
