Prince Louis of Battenberg

Prince Louis of Battenberg, a member of the British Royal Family and a veteran of the British Navy and the First World War, passed away on September 11, 1921, at the age of 67. Born on June 25, 1854, in Graz, Austria, Louis was a vibrant member of the British Armed Forces from a young age and served under many of Britain's Kings and Queens, including Queen Victoria and King Edward VII. He rose to the rank of admiral during his naval career and notably commanded HMS Fearless in the Yangtze Incident of 1900. During the First World War, Louis was the First Sea Lord and served as a commander of the 5th Battle Squadron of the Grand Fleet. His efforts and dedication to the British cause were integral to the Allied victory. After the end of the war, he was made a Knight of the Order of the Garter by King George V and went on to become the 1st Marquess of Milford Haven. Prince Louis of Battenberg spent his life in service of the British Crown and nation, cementing his legacy in the hearts and minds of all who knew or admired him for many years to come.
