Primo Levi, an Italian chemist and Holocaust survivor, passed away on April 11, 1987 at the age of 67. Born in Turin, Italy in 1919, he studied chemistry at the University of Turin and became a certified industrial chemist in 1941. In 1944, he was arrested by Nazi forces and sent to the Auschwitz concentration camp. He was one of few able inmates to survive Auschwitz due to his resistance to follow orders and his intellect, which allowed him to operate as a member of a labor crew. After his liberation from Auschwitz, Levi returned to Turin and resumed his work as a chemist. Over the next four decades, Primo Levi wrote extensively about his experiences as a Holocaust survivor and became a leading voice in Holocaust testimony. His works include his autobiographical novel, If This Is A Man (1947), as well as The Truce (1963) and his essay collection The Periodic Table (1975). Primo Levi was a beloved father, grandfather, and husband. He is survived by his son, daughter, and five grandchildren. His works will remain as a tribute to his life and a powerful reminder of his experiences as a Holocaust survivor.

Death is no more than passing from one room into another. But there’s a difference for me, you know. Because in that other room I shall be able to see. Helen Keller (Remember that Helen Keller was blind)
