It is with great sadness that we announce the death of the prominent Dutch politician Pim Fortuyn on May 6, 2002. He was 54 years of age. Pim Fortuyn was a polarizing figure and charismatic leader who often spoke out on issues related to immigration, justice and crime. Fortuyn was known for his controversial stances and unique style of political rhetoric. In 2002 he founded the Pim Fortuyn List party and released the book Pim Fortuyn's Manifesto in which he denounced the multicultural policies of the Dutch government. He had success in the polls running for the position of prime minister of the Netherlands, gaining significant public attention. An untimely death cut short his political career. Many will remember Pim Fortuyn for his wit, intelligence, and brash political commentary. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family.

Life is for the living. Death is for the dead. Let life be like music. And death a note unsaid. Langston Hughes
